It always pays to shop around Anthony, mind you, I would never spend that here on a loco,as much as I would like a class 24 with sound!!,the only sound that you;ll hear in this case is "AAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH"............Dave

I've made an exectutive decision,I'm no longer going to deal with Ebay as far as model railways goes,I'm not even going to look anymore!! I'm just off the site and I really could not believe in the prices that individuals..and dealers are asking for their stuff, as Australians we are just being totally ripped off by these merchants. We all know that this hobby like many others is just getting more expensive by the minute, soon it'll be just for little rich kids,or worse,it'll just go 'pop', and then the companies or individuals might see the light ,that these models are just way too costly for the 'average earner!', and if you want 'sound'...."Wow!!" I know that I've said it all before, and many times, but this mornings venture into Ebay has just ended a long association with me and the 'model train' section..absolutely bloody ridiculous!!!!! As an individual,I'll admit to having 'paid over the odds',but that's only been on a 'rare' occassion, I was daft dealing with Ebay, and I ended up paying way too much, but if it's something that you want, well, sometimes you get hasty, but if I had done a bit of 'research',the item was but a phone call away, and I could have saved way over 150 bucks!! Thankfully we have Britain, and there are heaps of 'discounters' around that ensure that the hobby will not 'die'. Dave

I agree with you Dave, however, the thing I find about Ebay....is not necessarily the items price....yes it can be dearer, but the big rip off is the postage your asked to pay.
For example, a loco I'm looking at from 2 vendors in the US of A is a GP40-2W, both have it for the same price, but the postage is $43 how do they justify that, when another company I deal with sends a single loco to me for $12 postage.
But vendors outside of Ebay can be sharks too, particularly when it comes to limited edition or rare stuff, it's quickly becoming a "pre-order or miss out" type of hobby......Phil

Thats why I have started to pre order things, then I can get it for the lower price, than if I bought it when it was available.

Other thing I'm starting to hate is Amazon having things for sale or recommending things to me, that they can only send within the US or the UK. Whats the point of telling me about them.

True Phil,it be a double rip off then...harr!!,and yes Anthony,I agree,pre-order the thing, then you have it for the original price, and this thing about only posting to the UK and the EEC sucks.I to get stuff from Amazon.....Dave

Well,I lied..accidentally went onto UK Ebay when seeking out 'Deltic' info,I could'nt resist the temptation to see how much that these locos were sellin' for? One of the first edition 'Plat' 'num' versions, seller wants round the 450 pound mark for that one, a pristine 'normal version',6 bids so far, it's up to 155 at the moment! Lastly, there was a 'current' weathered version as well, same as per my order, it cost 143 pounds direct from the NRM...NOW!!, it has NOT sold out and is still available, and yet, here is this person on Ebay asking 200 for it...UK buyers only! Now,who in their right mind in the UK is going to pay 57 quid over the odds (some Aussie guy did something like that for another 'famous' loco...cough cough!!!) when all they have to do is pick up the phone...some sellers are real chancers, preying on dumb people... 'cough'... I hope he can't sell it!! I think I'd be inclined to send the guy an Email and politely tell him where to shove his Deltic!!................... Dave

On another rare visit to Ebay I was totally flabergasted at the asking price for a Hornby Class 47,nothing special, one of the 'older batch' of Virgin locos, wait for it, the price?... 250 dollars and 20 to post it!!."ye-aaaagh!!!".....now this guy has come up the Clyde in a banana boat,he needs to wipe off the 2 at the front..what a joke, surely there is not someone out there who'll buy it! .Dave
