Ah... those operating mail coach sets of way back in my Tri-ang (toy) days. They were great fun, I can still see it operating in my mind, battering round my wee modest 6X3 layout picking up the wee red bag from the 'pick up' port hook thingy, then tossing it out into the catcher (maybe!!) as it moved round the layout!. There were two operating units in the set for pick up and deposit, these were fitted to their own track section with ramps for the operating levers under the coach, one on one side, one on the other. As the coach passed over these, one of the levers of the coach would strike the ramp, the catcher plunked open, grabbed the bag, then as it went round the leaver on the other side of the coach struck the other ramp and the bag was chucked out, sometimes with so much vigour the bag totally missed the 'catcher!!' brilliant really, very clever for it's day, fun factor of...10?,(Tri-ang did a lot of these operating 'toys) we easily amused way back in those early days, it was the days of the 'toy railway trains' but it mattered not, the seeds were sown for the 'hobby' it is now.........Dave

Well,at least you have secured one Anthony, that's what counts. The Hornby Dublo one Phil, they were tin plate? They come up in Ebay on occassions. I'd like a real Mark1 travelling post office train, I hear that it might be on the cards by Backmann. Talking of the 'TPO', I saw the very one that got robbed by Mr Biggs on the 7th of August 1963 It was out of Glasgow and it passed my 'spotting' bit on the Wishaw South Main line about 7pm or there about. It was hauled by English Electric 1co-co1 diesel loco D326 on that evening and round about 0340 on the 8th of August it was stopped at a red light and everybody knows the rest!!. So, by doing the sums it'll be the 48th anniversary of the Robbery next Monday!!..Dave
