Started on the USS Gato last night, 1/144 scale, large boat not many parts, but looks good. I started by constructing this funny tube thingy that fits inside the hull. I can't see why it's there, the only logical thing for it is to support the hull, but I could think of easier ways to do that, also if your like me, I like to glue the hull from the inside, this tube prevents that for a goodly part of the keel.
Unfortunately the destructions are very basic and no explanation is provided with any of the steps just pictures, but so far, apart from the said destructions......it's a nice looking kit.........more too come.....rating 7/10.........Phil

I have positioned the cylinder and the hull parts together, not the best fit but little bit of work will be needed to make it good, the cylinder does give it strength, but as I said earlier there are easier ways to do it.
The forward section of the boat can be glued from within, but the remainder is an outside job, there are some gaps where the hull isn't quite perfect, but a bit of filler will fix it..........rating 6/10.....Phil

Got a bit of filler into her last night, the hull will be fine after a sanding down, care needs to be taken with the raised detail lines on the hull.
I also dry fitted the deck late last night..........needs a lot of work, a very poor fit, the inside edges of the deck are not beveled to meet the rounded curve of the hull and the deck needs to be shimmed to raise it up to the same level as the hull....I'll post a few piccys in the following days......rating 5/10......Phil

The deck in place, there are lots of gaps and the deck forward of the gun position needed work to add strength to the deck in this area Attachments:

Looks awfully like a U boat hull to me at the moment Phil, but I think with the 'US' boats the similarity ends with the coning tower!!...one of these days I'll need to get at least one of my Revell 'U Boats' finished!!...........great job Phil...........Dave

Pumped a bit of filler in various holes, she looks ok now, smoothed off nicely, the holes were gracious enough not to be near any surface detail, started on the tower...she'll be ready for the paint shop soon....Phil
