I know were your coming from Davey.....when I started building my big layout, people wanted to come visit, I had to fob them off.....there's nothing to see apart from construction work, tools and stuff everywhere....
People think that the bloody things pop up overnight and are ready to run, from the start point to the first run stage, with mine was nearly 2 years, and to when you first saw it.......8 years.....and she is not even 50% completed.....I think it was 3 years before I let anyone near it.....it's a work in progress.......not a frypan....Phil

Mine was started sometime in the 1990s and is nowhere near being ready and so far I've had only 2 people view it, someone from the ARHS and Dave.

I think you' ve posted fair comment Phil,it's not that I don't want folks around,I'm really quite desperate to show my 'work ' off, but personally I'm not yet ready for that,(yet) I know it's what I might say a 'runable' layout, well, it has to be at this early stage , it's in it's development as I plan and try things out, when it's a 'goer' I'll only be too pleased to have the likes of yourself Phil and Anthony, and anyone who's interested over at my place(there's a few at my work showing interest as well) but, until this boy says,"that'll do me for the now" (and I've worked out 'cost of entry!') I'll only be too pleased to have folks around..and 'play trains',until then,I might saythat it's sort of 'off limits' and to the one and only...me! I hope I'm not being selfish, I'm working on the 'photo' thing to show all you guys out there just exactly what I'm up to, it's not my intention to keep you all in the dark, so, 'please please' (as I say),"bear with me", and when the photos start to appear, please comment, I'll listen to just about anything, I like fair comment, I'll listen to unfare comment as well, it's all part of a great forum, and I'm pleased to be part of it......Dave

A Koala is a Mars-oopy-al and not a bear at all Phil,it's just a cuddly thing with huge claws and lives in trees,a grizzly is not cuddly,it may appear to be, it has huge claws (to rip you apart),giant teef to rip you further apart and it is without doubt a bear, it does not live in trees,so you could be safe in trees, but on the other hand,if there's a Koala up there? ?Dave

Thing is bears can and will climb trees after you and there is a bear in Australia, but it's very rare and no one alive has seen it. It's called the drop bear, they drop out of trees and savage you to death.

I wanted to get the layout to a stage were you could run a train and have the basics of a layout operational, before anyone visited. Most people who visit don't want to see the layout in an idle state, they arrive expecting to see trains running.
The early stages are the important times as ideas and plans are tested, reset and tested again, you and I, Anthony, have already past this phase, Dave is just embarking on it, so this is his "personal" time with his layout, before it becomes "somewhat public".
But as the creator of this wondrous little world continues with his task, he will reach a point in time when he will know, it's time to allow the visitors to sneak a peak.....lets hope it's not in 2 years tho.......Phil

I think you've hit the nail on the head Phil,I will strive to create my 'wonderous little world' as you put it,"strive strive strive" and I bloody well hope I can do it in less than 2 years, but as they say,a model railway is never finished... Anyhoo,I will endeavour though to share it in photos with my fellow 'train people',that'll keep everybody 'on track' as to my progress until I go 'public'...........Dave
