I had a go at this boat during the week, what I thought was going to be a smple task started to drive me bonkers!! Reason?, instruction booklet, even though they are printed out with nice colour photos, it does present a wee niggly problem....they'll tell you in the text that you will use the (say) 2mm x 2mm dark 'blah blah' wood but the photo shows quite clearly it's light 'blah blah' wood, I'm more annoyed than baffled, it's going to be slow going from now on I can tell you,and at this time I'm not going to mention the rigging, small she may be,but there are sails and masts...it's not going to be plain sailing....Dave

Just about finished off the boat, planking of the inside (Keel)turned out to be a breeze, fun even and I'm really pleased with my effort. I've started to add some of the 'boxed' small goods package, this has been 'binocular' work but it all looks really good and is beginning to look like something on the box, it's looking quite the 'pro' on it's wee stand, I just have to figure how to post the pictures I have taken!.....Dave

The boat istself is finished, but before I can say "bloody 'ell mate, I finished a kit!!"I've just got to figure out the sails and rigging...and then I can say, "ya-hoo!!" but if I'm struggling with this, what chance have I got with the 'Cutty Sark's???'.. "Oh!", by the way, I've found the 'plastic containers' 5 of them, but the huge clear plastic moulding contained within the box has 6 compartments, that's a stinker having 5,is there one missing??,or did it contain something else??, I'm thinking that it may have contained the fancy scroll workings on the bow and strern, plus 'Nannie the Witch' and I have them separate, "Hmmmmmm' "anybody got this kit and can confirm my thoughts? ...Dave

Just like to mention, this wee boat has had it's faults, (1)....the rudder...cut outs for hinges didn't match, hinges crap, wouldn't fit, then broke! (2)....the mast were supposed to be 4mm in diameter,as supplied..all were 3mm rods. (3)....the instructions had me cut 4 booms for the sails, all different sizes, but one of them was 10mm short...."no ma fault!!" , I cut it as per the sizes shown....bad instructions!! I'm working on the sails at the moment, 3 sails have 20 brass rings inserted into their edges, (10-5-5) easy job,now I need to sew the tops of two sails to their respective booms and figure the rigging.....Dave

Sounds like typical Aretasania Latina instructions. Thing is I have heard they are very good for the large ships, wonder why they can't do the same with the small ones.

Make that two 'booms' Anthony!..they (A L) also supplied little black 'bead' things that fitted into the 'mast end' of the 'boom', (catapult shape)these were quite badly made, 'rigging thread' had to be threaded through each bead, 4 per boom, 4 booms, that's 16 of these wee buggers!! I destroyed 4 by trying to drill them out as I could not for the life of me thread them, so 4 more had to be made from something, that something was simply a 'hollow' lolly pop stick cut into appropriately sized sections, then threaded and fitted in the same way to the boom, but way easy as the 'hole' was a fraction wider to accept the thread. All that they require is a touch of black paint, if I had thought about this sooner, I would have done the whole 16 in this way..bugger..bugger!! Anyhoo, all completed, these are then passed over the mast, but before you can do that, each of the sails have brass rings fitted to them , then the two 'main' sails (not the jib sail)are 'sewn' to the top two booms of each mast, the completed sails are then slipped over the masts, but who forgot to do this on the 'main' mast??...I had the 'jib' sail fitted and rigged up to this mast before it dawned on me! This meant I more or less had to remove all my hard work, but I thought if I remove two lots of rigging, I might just be able to 'fix' this...it took a while and a lot of 'breath holding', but I managed!! Dave
P/S, all I have to do is now rigger 'er up and she's done!!......

Then the final photos can be done. Well done on the rescue of the rigging.

Thanks Anthony, god only knows how I'll get out of a 'stuff up' with the 'Cutty Sark' rigging, but on this kit there are real plans in scale of what goes where, but it still looks impossible to me!!...Dave

Sounds like you salvaged it well........I've rigged a lot of ships Davey and really it's not as scary as you may think.......so a man of your skills shouldn't have a problem with the Cutty Sark........Phil
