Rails have 'credited' just over 94 UK quids into my 'account' for the 'doubling up' of my "lion' loco...unfortunately,it's still not found it's way home yet, still on that slow boat!! The money instead will go toward my 'Baby Deltic' loco (pre-order) which should be in the shop round about the end of this month, that's good news!!.........Dave

You are what you are Phil, it's your Hobby (one of!!) and you have a thing (obviously)for this 66 class! My friend in Scotland has a 'thing' for the old class 50s,I reckon he's got twice as many as what were in the full loco class!!...My most 'numerous' are the 'Peaks' and I have my eye on another! Anyhoo, I too have a 'noo' loco on the way as well!, my most expensive and highly prized 'catch' the NRM 'City of Truro' 4-4-0 loco by Backmann. I saw it on Ebay, and thought,"Hmmm", if I can't get the 'Deltic', come hell come high water, I'm going to win this one.....and I did!! The 'Auction' started at 150 bucks and I ended up the winner, but it cost me 375 bucks, Ithought I'd get it for 300 or so, but bidding just kept going higher! Anyhoo, I had 'sold' several of my diecast cars the previous evening and got the wife to bung it into our 'Credit Card' account,I made my 'maximum' bet 415 bucks, that did it!!.."yip yip". So it's all paid for, the 'seller' has been in touch and it's getting posted from Sunny Cairns this morning....."Why this locomotive??" you may think to youself , and "why not?" I say, simply, it's beautiful, I've always fancied motorizing the old Kitmaster/Dapol/Airfix kit, and I actually have the latter, still in it's box just waiting to be built, now it can stay in it's box...maybe! I'm hoping to sell a few more 'DC Cars' over the coming weeks to get more, meanwhile I have my 'poker in the fire' for a couple more locos, but I'm not bidding 'high', these are not anywhere near as desirable as the 'City' but I'll give them a go, I've got 200 left in the 'kitty'.....,watch this space!!.........Dave

Wonders what the kit City of Truro is like, also what are the DC cars like and what are selling them for.

This kit is still available from Dapol Anthony, comes in a grey plastic moulding in a bag,it shows it's age apparently having been on the go for 'yonks and yonks' and has lots of 'flash',so I read! I have the original Airfix one, unbuilt, and still in it's box,it looks to be in good shape. I have built this very kit, a long time ago, and what I can remember of it, it's a pretty good kit,(for it's time!!) but it has 'raised' lines on the loco and tender for a 'guide' so that it's easy to paint on the orange lines that represent the lining!!It is wise to remove all these lines and clean up the loco. Once all the lines are removed and a decent paint job has been done, the lining can be made up from a transfer sheet, and I believe 'Comet' provide a chassis and motorising kit, so you can have a relatively 'cheap' loco, far less than what I paid..... Now, if I had any brains, obviously I have...but, I was caught in the moment, this 'ordinary' model it seems is still available from the NRM shop for 145 quid, plus postage etc etc...but, they do not take orders or post to anywhere outside the EU, that's what I was e-mailed from the shop itself, that sucks!! There has to be ways round that, and if it's still in stock, it would only have cost me around the $240 mark, way cheaper, and I could have sent it to a UK adress, but as my relatives wont be here until the end of October, (can't wait that long!!) I'm happy to have wone 'the auction'..........Dave

I decided as I've got no chance of sourcing a Backmann DP1 'Deltic' loco, I've opted for the Dapol Kit. I've bought it from the Preston (England) shop, as per my signals for almost 30 bucks cheaper than our Autralian Ebay sellers can offer!! Also, to as well even, I've ordered the Fox Transfer sheet, this has the name, whiskers, and side lining on the one sheet. This will allow me to begin the detailing by removing the very oversized mould line (guides) for painting the lining onto the kit and the orrible same thing for the nose 'whiskers' (I've had this kit before, but it was the original Kitmaster one) It's a pretty good kit of the Deltic, concidering the 'moulds' are now over 50 years old!! It is recommended that an old Lima class 37 chassis is used for the 'running gear' aptly converted, I'm thinking my Lima Deltic might be the donor! This is going to be another challenge for the future, now I need to source the 'French Blue' paint for the overall paint job, time to send my wee Scottish pal an Email!!....Dave

I've looked out my 'Airfix' City of Truro kit, circa 1961 on the loco mainframe!, that's old, seems a shame to build it,but I will! Looking over the mouldings, well, not up to todays standards of 'injection' moulding, but overall, you know it's the 'CoT' There are a few 'sink holes' and moulding flaws that I need to fix before I do anything. The model has the same moulded on lines as per the 'Deltic' these are for easy painting of the 'orange' lining, these will be removed of course before being painted in Brunswick green. I found some pictures of the 'real' loco that have her painted differently. As this will be a 'static' model, I will follow the paint job as per these photos, the main differences are the loco frames, they are black, also the tender has 'Great Western' on it, so it's lined out differently! So there we go,a couple of good locomotive projects for later ....Dave
