I built one of the anchors supplied as per the build instructions except I used thinner brass for the bands. You can see the difference in size from the anchor I made to the correct dimensions. I will use this as the smaller kedge anchor on my model. Attachments:

On my model the pieces that fill in the bow section, er don't quite fill it in as you can see after sanding. Don't know whether its a design flaw or the plywood is a bit thinner than it should be. Attachments:

So I used the ply sheet that the piece came from to make another piece to fill in the gap Attachments:

I did the planking exactly how the instructions say and it turns out pretty good. This is a photo after sanding, nice and even. Can't wait to start the top layer of planks. As I expected, those nails are a pain in the A when you are sanding the planks. You can't file them all down very easily because of the curvature of the hull, so they just end up ripping all the abrasive stuff off the sandpaper. I pulled a few of them out with pliers during sanding. See previous post, I stopped using the nails about half way through the planking, glad I did. Attachments:

The bow turned out okay after adding those extra pieces. The sanding down of the hull takes a fair bit of time and effort. Attachments:

I've been mucking around with the main hatch today. I did the hatch surround a bit different to the instructions. Although the Endeavour may have had a much-raised hatch surround to keep out water in rough seas, I like the look of this it looks more like a hatch on a ship. I did the battens as the instructions say using the rings they supply, they look really crap, and again they are a different size to the ones shown on the photos in the mag. Attachments:

So I made some narrower battens using 5mm wood and made some smaller eyebolts and rings using copper wire. These rings are more like the size you would expect them to be. Attachments:

Just for fun I made a grating (I had some left over from a previous kit) to see what it looks like. I reckon they would have put the grating on the hatch during good weather to let light into the lower deck. I might leave it like this, dunno yet But I will probably do the hatch as shown in the AOTS. Attachments:
