Here is the hatch done like shown in AOTS. Notice that the in-between battens don't have rings. Attachments:

This weekend I fitted the stern filler pieces, sanded them and fitted the planks on the transom. Some problems with the planking start to show up, there's a bit of a hollow in one spot, you can see it in this photo, and a gap where the transom starts. I just got issue 48, the instructions say to use filler to correct all the dips and holes. Attachments:

I becoming more and more disappointed with the quality of the parts supplied with this partwork As I have previously shown on here some parts aren't even the same as the parts in the magazine photos. This time its the capstan. The one in the instruction photos looks like a demented Darlek, not a capstan. And the one I actually got is worse still, and different to the one even in the instructions, let alone the ship photos. Attachments:

The photos of the model in the magazine show a completely different capstan that looks a lot more like a real capstan, in the photo you can see it as well as the proper shape on the draught plan and the one I got in the partwork. Looks like another scratch built piece coming up. Attachments:

Hello Shipaholic....love your hatch, quite brilliant, I'll make mine the same.....
Your disappointment doesn't bode well for the rest of this build, my rating is not high anyway and I've been critical of the kit for a while (mostly posted on the other crashed site) my hull looked like a banana when it was all together, I had to block her out to get it straight, then the deck sheeting......well another story.......
I had a look at the capstan I got, it's a sorry bit of work as well, your description is quite apt.....I look forward to your new capstan, if its anything like your hatch, it will be a fine piece, keep up the good work......Phil

Thanks Phil, yeah that other site that crashed was good, I enjoyed looking at what other builders were doing. I seem to be the only one posting much on here. I wish a few more would get on here, or somewhere, and post some stuff. I think sharing ideas is great, I got some good ideas on that other site.

I know where your coming from, we seem to have lost a fair bit of momentum with the crash, but the guys are out there, we just have to find them again.....I'm going to finish what I'm working on now and then start on the Endeavour again, Dave must be due to start again as well.....Phil

We had so much going on on that Forum Phil, I sort of lost the 'Mojo' when it crashed, it was funny, entertaining, informative and it highlighted the modelling skills of all us individuals whether it was our first project or just one of many! We were a team it seemed, never too serious in getting our personal views or points over and happy to share our ideas......what a loss, what a shame!!. Anyhoo, I not thinking of getting into the Endeavour any time soon folks...'unfortunately', but that doesn't mean I've lost interest, I'm just doing something else, and the way things are at the mo, I'm lucky to be doing that!!. We have overseas visitors coming in October...miles away...I know, but as it's the wifes mum,her brother & his better 'alf, plus one 'neffoo', the 'hoose backyard and garage will all have to be done, top priority my friends on order from 'das Furer'..so I'll be a 'viewer' rather than a 'do-er' '......."bugger bugger bugger".....Dave

The only thing that's worse than work for getting in the way of shipbuilding, that's relatives.......be careful of em Dave.....they always want to touch........Phil

First, I agree a lot of momentum was lost when the old forum crashed and burned. G'day Phil !!Nice to see some here. Now what a great job Shipaholic is doing. I will be watching what he does closely as his insights and scratchbuilding are superb. Tony aka LTHUMP

Hi Tony, Phil, Dave, Anthony. Thanks for the comments and the compliments. Today I spent the afternoon making my capstan. Fair bit of work, but then again probably not much more work than the way we are told to do it in the instructions. I will explain how I made it just in case someone wants to do it the same. I found a technical article about making capstans on the model ship world website, it had a few handy hints in it. Does anyone know how to put multiple photos in the one post? Steve Attachments:
