This is how she looks at the moment. Im staining the outer planks at the moment but im not real confident about using contact adhesive to stick em down. Anyone got any thoughts on that ? cheers Attachments:

Pva would be much better than using contact adhesive to glue them on as you don't get a second chance with contact adhesive. Your build is looking good. Mine is only on hold until the next 4 issues turn up. I get mine via subscription.

Hello to Chris from Melbourne, great to have you on the Forum, good luck with the build, I was building it, but I've since gave up on my subscription,so that's it from me, but as it's a 'Forum' of all sorts, I'm always around doing something...keep up the good work...Dave

Hello Chriso, you are coming along great guns, excellent work!!....now, I'm not being critical, you have not done anything wrong, it's the manufacturer!! The mid ship bullwarks(main deck) are the wrong shape as supplied and instructed to build, they are way to high and 'straight', just means the cannons will not be able to see over the side as they should ! I found this out when I was putting mine together (as per the instructions) unfortunately, they were all fixed in place, but I ripped the things off and re-shaped them, you have to get a nice sweeping transition (curve, like an 'EU' banana!!) from the bow to the stern. (I also increased the hight of the aft bullwarks at their rearmost point by about 4mm to about 1/2 way, then I sanded it down gradually from the aft point of 4mm to zero at that half way point, this also to help achieve this 'curvature' in the overall shape of the model. (as per my interpretation from the Anatomy of the ship) To get any where near achieving this, the bullwark where it joins with the aft deck (step up)should be about 1/2 the size (at that point) as to how it is portrayed in the kit, so I worked in the 'curve' right from the bow bullwarks to get it down to that size!.. I had this all documented 'blow for blow' in the old 'Forum' and photographed as well, unfortunately, we lost that!!, but if you need to see what I mean, have a look at 'Steve's' (shipaholic) he describes the problem well and shows what it should be like! I'm not telling you to go and de-construct it Chriso,or anybody else for that matter, I'm sure that you'll live with it, but a way round it is to construct new blocks (sides?) for the cannons so that they sit 'taller' than the supplied (wrong ones anyway)and are able to poke through the railings with ease.... when you reach that stage, again, see Steve's model..........Dave

G'day Chriso, Dave is right about the waist bulwark, it is probably the worst error made by the supplier so far. It simply was the wrong shape as supplied, I like some others here simply used the side views from the AOTS book to reshape it. Where the quarter deck meets the waist deck- my waist bulwark is only 4mm high and only rises 1mm by the time it is level with the waist stairway. At that point it rises bananna like to join the front in a continuous sweep upward. There is barely any bulwark hieght left as it passes the front step up. ;D

Thanks guys , I see the difference. In the process of modifying the bulwarks at the moment and it looks much better. I remember some peeps were making the decks curved from the start of this build but i decided to leave it as is , I think the deck looks very busywhen everything is added and prob wont really see much of it. After seeing pics of how the cannons should look, what we have been given looks very average Ill have a go at modifying the metal ones and see how it turns out. If its crap Ill scratch build some. Cheers Chris

Hi Chriso, yeah modify the bulwarks whilst you still can. I reckon the lines of a ship contribute a lot to how good it looks. Do you have a copy of the Anatomy of the Ship? If not get it. It will be a good help especially for whats coming up later, especially the rigging. Cheers Steve
