So far Phil I'd say without fear or contraception, 'vellee goodeee' This American has indeen chewed the chew...but there has to be one (or two) who find fault in everything! OK, there has been.........'hmmmmm''....nothing really,a wee bit between the bottom half and top half of the hull, otherwise it's a great kit to work on, parts fit together well, no flash..oh!..the hause holes for the anchor looked like they were molded the wrong way round, ""that"" and that alone it seems to be the biggest gripe that I've read about, but it's fixable, and for those that don't know what a hause hole is?, it wont stop the anchor from fitting anyway!! OK, still moving through it, slowly, very slowly, you can't hurry cutting out and fitting handrails (3 different types as well..as I've mentioned before), it's a slow progress, bending, then re straightening them 'cause my 'estimate' of the corner or bend has been a "baw hair oot", then you look at them the wrong way and they bend anyway, so fine, but bwilliant etchings!! Anyway, they bring the particular part that you are fitting these to to life, but they really need to be fitted off the kit, you'd be struggling to fit them otherwise! Last night, I fitted the 3 range finders as I said, and boy this part of the bridge looks really business like now, it'll look fantastic with the LEDs in place, I even glazed it! I started and finished the deck below the 'range finder' thingy deck,(I'm working top to bottom!!) The railings are quite straightforward on this deck, where railings are fitted there is a 'lip' at the edge of the deck so the rails butt up to this making it easier for placement, but at the rear of this deck,no, so I've used the idea that the rails are fitted to an 'angle', that's a piece of steel that is fixed to the edge of the deck (like my Bismarck)onto which the railings are bolted (in real life). So, I've purchased more of this 'Evergreen' angle that I use for this purpose so that I can do the hull/deck and any other part that I see fit in this way, it's more fidly work, but it works, and I believe that's how it was on the 'real' ship...but it's never modelled in this way, you just glue the railing to the edge of the deck and that's it !!.(??)....Dave

Sounds really good my friend, seeing you haven't posted any pics, I'll need to inspect this build in person, but then I have a few piccys to show you as well.
I agree with you on the "lip", it seems to be part of the ship that gets missed out on, i'm going to add it to my Bismarck and the other ships I have PE for.
I decided to stay with my 350 Arizona, I already have a lot of PE and resin for that scale, and I also recently added the Eduard 350 scale PE kit for her as well, so you'll have a fine 200 scale one and I'll have a fine 350 scale one......Phil
PS...just bought a 350 Musashi off Ebay for $73 including postage.....

I'll get round to taking some photos, I have to...sometimes it gets hard to try and explain things.....one day Phil! Anyway, I'm glad you are going to follow suit on your Bismarck and others,(re the 'lip') nice when somebody picks up on one of your ideas! I don't know how small these angles go by 'Evergreen' , what I have seems perfect for the 1/200, no worries..I'll post the size later, it's the same batch as I used for my Bismarck, probably a bit big for 1/350th scale. Too bad you've decided to stay with the 1/350th Arizona,(it's not bad really, you're the man!!) I was hoping you'd go 'Big',but if it's the 1/350th, it'll still be a cracker,no doubt about it. On the other hand'I still have my two 1/350 kits, I won't be doing a 'smaller version', even though I've got 3 lots of brass, one definately will be the bombed out wreck to use up the brass, I may do the 'sunken' version as well , but I've been saying that for what seems like years now!!........(Harr) Well done on the Musashi, that was el-cheapo, and with postage...lucky you!! Right, my working day is over, home time! Lastly, the model railway expo is on here in Canberra this week end, there is No Easter show at the Hockey centre this year..or ever!, as I found out..(hmmmm).I might be going this Saturday and picking up Anthony on the way, still to be finalised.........Dave

You'll have to get your priorities sorted here Dave, you can't let a perfectly good social life get in the way of model building......Phil
PS...let me know how the Glass Onion show goes....I'd like to see that myself.....

Got some work in between concerts over the week end, just a couple of railings to go and that'll be the bridge part all done..phew!. I also paint each part as I go,so if I get the railings done I can spray the bottom deck piece and give the LEDs a shot before I glue each part together. I'm thinking it might be also be a good idea at this stage to place two or three crew members in places the will otherwise be non accessable when she's all together..Dave

Finished off the bridge railings..thank goodness!! I've got these last parts in the garage for painting,so once that's done I'll have a go at fitting the LEDs and then I can glue it together and move on!.........For the first time in the build I really got frustrated, I skipped a bit of railing as per this 'other builder' had done, then as I viewed the actual wreck I was thinking I should make it right by doing this wee jutting out 'thingymabobberbit' with the curved railing as an 'add-on', I'd then 'clip' the other railing to open it up, as per the real thing, but could I get it this railing the right shape??(it curves back on itself and is about 3mm ) nope!!, too small and impossible to handle, I'd need to rip off the whole rail and do it again, and I can see by the fret, I might not have enough spare railing to re do it, this would probably be the way to go! I also noticed that this railing looses a rail, it goes from a 3 bar to a 2 bar on the one railing and only round the curved bit, I think I can fix that with the 'new Xunon snips'..... Dave

Sounds like a ticklish spot, I'll have a look around the build room, there is a spare PE set in there somewhere, but I'm not sure if it's 200 scale, you're welcome to it if it's in 200, I'll let you know.......Phil

Ticklish, bloody right Phil, I never give up!!Anyhoo, "big Arizona news", discovered by accident while browsing for more photos..."Oh no!!"..a full detail kit by MK1 models, it's called the 'DX pack' and it contains a full wooden deck, plus 5 full sheets of etchings that replace the boat cranes and the two aft catapults, the mast top control towers, all sorts of railings/steps and stacks of other stuff. I'm lucky not to have advanced that much, so I've ordered it, 219.95 from B&D models Aust, and free postage to boot!!...I'm dead!!.........Dave
