It is a handy little tool to have around Dave, cool idea, I never gave that bit of plastic a thought, I'm going to store your solution in the memory banks, to be used in conjunction with superglue.
I normally use a toofpick wiv a dob o bluetack on it in a similar way to what you've explained......but I primarily use a glue called Tetra, its a plastic solvent and it doesn't stick to the toofpick or bluetack.....but as usual your a master of "on the fly" construction.........keep up the good work......Phil

Talking of tools, (not Toys) I thought, seeing as the Arizona has about a kilo of etchings, I reckon I needed a new file,(mine are all crap) I sent away for a 'Tamiya Diamond Craft File' off Ebay (USA,I saw it on a previous visit,13.95 Aust Post Free!)...Dave

That's the 5" AA guns in place, they no longer elevate, I could not get a happy medium, so I glued 'em!!, they do turn mind you! My brass tack idea worked, but I had to use 'toofpicks' to fill the hole on the gun base, (the bit that goes through the deck) I also had to make it shorter so it was flush with the underside of the deck, then drill a smaller hole to press the tack into. I don't recommend this job before the guns are detailed, there is way too much handling and I did bend a few railings and knock a couple of detail parts off the gun mount, but unfortunately, there is no other way, they have to be handled, but they are now fixed to the kit and no other work or handling needs to be done with them. (apart from a touch up of paint) Next on the agender (I think) will be to remove some smaller detail parts off the various sprues for the decks and paint them, I'll need to try and get the ' plastic antenna/rigging posts(?) parts de-glued' and off the aft mast 'control top' without seriously damaging them. I need to do this so that I can remove the 'surface detail' from the 'top' before I can affix the brass overlays as supplied in the pack(any ideas on de-gluing Phil??) I had fitted these parts as a 'sub assembly' before I got this 'noo detail pack', there are a lot of them, most came in two parts and are glued into 'fixing' holes that were present on the mast 'tops' for each set.. there are 6 sets!!, 3 fixing points per set, I could snip them off but I'll loose their 'strength' as rigging is attached to these.....ideas? ??.........Dave

I found the same problem with the secondary guns on the San Francisco Dave, nicely detailed, but a bugger to handle.
Depends on the glue used......if it was a solvent, there's no hope without destroying the parts, if it was the standard Revell glue, put the parts in the freezer for about 20 mins, the glue will become brittle and you can separate the parts.
Now Superglue....there are a lot of differing ideas around the traps, I found that Castrol Super Clean does the job, and there are a few superglue removers in the cheap shops like Go-Lo and Aldi that also work, a dab of Ezy-Lift-Off will do the job as well, be careful as all of these will soften the plastic after prolonged use......hope this helps.....Phil

Just the standard plastic glue I used Phil.......I think??? Iwas hoping you'd say nail varnish remover or paint thinner might do the trick...the freezer?? I know you put things with chewing gum in the freezer, as you say it becomes brittle, I'll give it a go..... I have a car/general cleaning agent that dissolves chewing gum, my daughter had a great dollop of the stuff on her car seat..not a trace left...Hmmmm.... I wonder? ??...maybe I'll perform a wee experiment on something.........I've had a look at Mr Roberto and his build, I've read over it a few times, it's OK...thanks for all that Phil......Dave.

Well, I tried Phil,(and and and) I got 4 off intact, but on two of them, I broke a spar on each...bugger!! I'm thinking I'll do a bit of 'stretched sprue' but this morning I had one of them 'flashes', what about that 'aluminium' tube that you have Dave, it's as thin as,(this is why I bought it, might just come in handy one day, and this is it!!??) maybe I can use it as a 'sleeve' sliding it over the broken 'spar' to form a new one,so at 0615 I was raking through the drawer where I had it stashed, or so I thought, could I find it?..no!! So, what you got in your box of spares Phil, do you have any really thin brass tube, only as thick so as a pin would be a tight fit? ?... I did what I said I would last night,I removed small parts for the decks off the frets, 4 'tubs' (for extra gun placement but remained empty), more ammo lockers, hatches and 'stuff' and then painting them. It was between coates of paint that I decided (as mentioned) to get these spars off the 'aft top', once that was done, I then filed off the raised detail, and then I decided to remove the 'undetailed' stiffners/braces from the 'tops' base part (thankfully, it was not glued to the 'top'!!), I started to file them, bugger that, craft knife, bugger that, going to loose a finger here, 'Xuron' sprue cutter?, the very fellow, "snip snip snip" then finish off with the file..and why stop there?, I'm on a roll, cut from the brass fret all the new 'detailed' stiffners with 'lightening' holes and other fancy holes for the said base part...boy, a challenge and a half my friend (Z), so small are these components, ""and""" some of these actually slotted into each other, like the cross braces!! Getting started was driving me nuts, even when I got going, getting glue onto the things without sticking to the tweezers or my fingers was near impossible, and to think, there are many others to do.....aaaaagh!!!!!!!..........Dave

Yes Dave, I have such tubing, have to check it's size tho could be the right size to replace the spar, I know it's very fine, it may be what your after, but anyhoo I'll get it too you so you can judge it for yooself.
I was back working on the Super Yamato last night, and I can very well understand your frustration, I was in the process of completing a brass etch catapult with the fine internal bracing......aaaaaaagh!!!!! torment takes many forms......my friend......Phil

Last night was a quiet night Phil, (and and and)I removed (from the sprues) a few more small parts, cleaned them up, sometimes I find the sprue attachment a bit heavy making the 'cleaning' up particulary difficult, like on the 4 'spare tubs' I mentioned in an earlier 'yackitty yak' these were connected to the sprue right on their edge, so great care is needed when these are removed then 'cleaned' otherwise the 'working edge' can be ruined, I rate this a 6/10!! Lastly, I fitted some of the brass overlay to the aft 'top', I just used 'plastic' glue here, seems to be OK, at least I get plenty of time to get the etchings in place!!...These etched parts are a resounding 20/10!!!!!..........Dave
