Well it didn't take long, from a smooth runner to screaming banshee!, my pride and joy Blue Pullman is dead, well, one of the units is... It's running all smooth, then I hear a scream and shut off power! On examination of the motor,(It's out of it's 'cradle' and in my hand),two wires are attached to the '+ and -' and as I turn up the juce, one way it's all smooth running, the other way??,well,it's vibrating like it's all out of wack and as the juce is piled on,the screaming starts, and boy, is it loud!! As these motors are more or less 'sealed' getting it completely stripped down is impossible,so, I've left it alone and sent away my two bobs worth to Backmann, hopefully I'll hear from them soon,I've requested a new motor, but they'll probably not agree to that, surely I wont have to send the whole bloody unit back!!...........Dave

I got straight onto the Backmann service people Anthony explaining my problem and telling them exactly what happened and what I'd done. I thought that I might have buggered up my warranty by taking the motor out. Anyhoo, the service centre got back (man!) to me this morning asking 'me' if it's 'OK' to send out a new motor?...I replied.."absolutely, thank you very much!!" So there you go, Backmann has did what I hoped they would, is that not 'first class' service for you?, hopefully, this motor will be on its way shortly from the UK, a simple swap over (hopefully!!) and I can get the 'failed' unit back into service!.......Dave
P/S, don't be put off by this Anthony, I think I was just unlucky, but still, I think I'd hang fire , but not too long!...maybe there is a problem batch with faulty motors,it would not be the first time!!

Maybe it only needs a bit of lube and re-seating......
I always check my stuff from O/S, by giving it a lube and re-seating whatever got knocked loose from the trip via the post, especially with Bachmann stuff. I remember getting one Dash-8 from the US and there wasn't a skerrick of lube in it......completely dry.
Never had a failure of the like you've experienced tho Davey........Phil

That's what I've been getting told Phil...'check it'....'lube it!!'...once I got the first 'squeal' that's what I did, both units off the train, tops off, 'lubee lubee',but obviously one was beyond this 'fix'.. Anyhoo, the new motor (when it arrives) will get me Pullman up and running again, but as some guy says (on one of the Forums I'm on), "it's a wonder that they are replacing it as you actually had the thing out of the loco to do tests on it" (technically it was never fully removed,it was still attached by the wires) I could have put it back together and said 'nuttin'... I actually thought about that as my actions may have made the warranty 'void'.....probably. Anyway, I told the service dept exactly what I did and that I was prepared to pay for a new motor. I thought being truthful was the way to go, and obviously it was. I also think the service dept seen this as an easy solution, one simple action by the PO....and as this loco is their 'pride and joy' getting a good feedback from a customer is a good thing, and I'm passing it on...what say you Phil??..........Dave

Still thinking about it, might have a look at it at Hattons on Saturday. But I'll get it off the website, no need to carry it home with me then. Specially as I'm maxed out on weight.
