Bit of an 'iffy' thing this weathering, you either likes it or don't likes it,me?,I' m a do'nt (short for doughnut) Well,I've had ago in the 'past' and I mean...'the past' (way back in the 60s man),I've still got a couple of examples lying around, and for a better word...'yeugh!!'..but we were easy to please way back then!! ? Anyhoo, my last two 'new' locos, my D6313 and D5902 both have been 'weathered' by me,D6313 totally by 'the brush' and D5902 a 'combination' of both brush and 'air brush'. Right, since 'discovering' this 'new' air brush,I've boldly gone and completely done a couple of 'older' locos with just a coat of 'frame dirt' and I must admit I liked it, it only takes a few minutes per loco for this basic once over' one colour paint job,but it's what you might say 'semi heavy',to make it 'heavy' would require 'other' colours like soot..heavy rust..lime deposits, etc etc..it's only spared by the imagination of just how far that you want to take it (artistic licence comes in handy!!)you can really go to town....but I'm happy with what I've done.. I might get some 'heavy' rust red paint for a wee touch here and there, we'll see! Anyhoo, the beez neez of my 'saturday morning' program was a Backmann A1, I had just removed the old 'lion on a bike' BR crests on the tender and with some paint in me hopper I attacked..gun blazing..and woooppitty woo hoo hoo, just like a real one!!...but what if you 'overdo' it,some paint thinners on a cotton bud will clean things up for you! So, (to end) I say,if you are game and have an 'air brush' go for some light weathering, this brush I have makes it 'soooo easy' and I reckon a couple of minutes will do per loco or coach, I'm going to do all my stock and most of my locos, not tomorrow or the next day,but I'll get round to it!.....Dave
