That's a 'me' thing, I'll fix it sometime as well, but meantime going against my 'norm' I've 'fixed' a friend of mines 'kids' loco straight away!!,firstly, one Lima 'Aussie' type diesel,I fitted that with new tires. Secondly, a 'Hornby Railroad LNER Flying Scotsman', this was way serious, the motor was belching out smoke and only just moving. I got the motor right off the chassis, pulled off the brass whatsitsface, and by prising up two 'lips' that keep the front section and rear section of the motor together I was able to separate the two halves and get to the armature bit and inspect the brushes and commutator, unfortunately I do not have a 'worm' puller, so by not having this bit of equipment ,this made removal of the brushes virtually impossible cause you can't get to them. Anyhoo, it was easy to see why she was 'smokin'',the commutator was caked, pure black and the 'dirt' was ground in, not good! I thought I'd try and clean it, an electrical cleansing agent would have been great, but I have none, there wasn't even enough room to squeeze in a cotton bug, so, 'how?'.. Well, there is always a way, a 'toothpick' (sharp bit removed) and onto that I superglued a bit of my finest 'wet and dry' trimmed it round the head of the said 'toothpick' and ever so slowly worked that round the commutator untill it was a bit cleaner looking. I cleaned it up the best I could, put the motor back together, applied 'hand held' power, and walla!!' she's going, and very well, no screaching, no flashing, no overheating. I held it between my fingers applying power forward and reverse, slow/fast..perfect..fixed!! Just a case now of attaching the brass 'thingy' and getting the motor back into the loco, she's going great now!!..Dave
