......100 quid for that.......and it's not even new.......that auction doesn't impress me I'm afraid.......its available from Hattons, new for 105 quid..... That auction will pass 105 for sure and if you chase it, as Davey did say, you'll pay more for a secondhand one than the new item.........Phil

Retracted the bid in the end, gave the reason that I had entered the wrong amount. Not the best way of getting out of it, but since ebay decieded to do an automatic bid, I deemed it time to end things.
Think you should have control of when an automatic bid is used, or even the amount of an automatic bid and be able to set it too zero.
Then made a bid, (as required by ebay, after doing a retraction) and was immediately outbid, so will leave it at that, someone else can have it. I'll keep watching it, to see what it does go for.

Be an absolute bargain if it were a 'buy it now'..I would probably think it would have a value of round the 220-260 silly squid 'RP' value ,but I don't think it's yet commercially available with sound,so it's any ones guess just what it'll be by the time the bidding ends as it's sort of 'unique' at the moment, so just on that, it should go quite high, but these 'Brits' are a canny lot!!.."a canny and wullny pie(pay) that!!" What gets me about the 'sound thing' is the huge additional cost to a 'standard' loco,if you have a 'fair' amount of locos. the cost to an individual would be like ""Wow!!!"",2 or 3 locos farting about??,well. that might be OK to me for the' fun factor' of it all ,but no thanks,it's not for me, sound from a steam locomotive without 'STEAM', is well, not very realistic!!..is it?? I've yet to here a steam sound that doesn't sound as if it's been recorded in a bucket!!...(in my opinion!)........Dave

I've yet to hear any really realistic sounds coming from a model loco. Think plain DCC will do for me.

"lament to a steam chip" Visit 'U Tube' and watch A4 'Union Of South Africa' on 'The Cambrian Mountain Express"(a 2013 tour) and let me know if a sound chip can do the same, you can not only hear that 'Gresley Beat' you can see it....see the white exhaust trail from her 'double clychap chimney', see and hear the cylinder exhaust keep in time with the 'beat' the safety valves streaming out the white stuff, and lastly, not only can you hear the distinctive 'chime' whistle, you can 'see' it work..the wee hint of steam...totally and absolutely glamorous, can a 'chip' do this and send those shivers doon the spine, sorry chippy people....not on your nelly duff!!!.......Dave

Nice to hear from you Andy,I'm thinking there's no chip on earth could sound like that, she's a moving!!, and like Anthony says, all that's missing is the smell!! Like I said folks,it's in my opinion that this 'digital sound' thing is just a pure novelty, and a very expensive one at that.. This boy having train spotted in the early 60s and through the demise of steam,I had the opportunity to hear and see 2, 3 and 4 cylinder locos all working hard for a living belching out dirty black 'reek'..'Angel white steam' and at speed with just a wisp of the angel stuff....""oh the pure joy of it"""....and of course the 'smell' Herr Anthony, canny forget that!! These recordings taken at the likes of gala steam days, hanging out of coach windows with recorders with big furry mikes , just doesn't come anywhere close, to the 'real' thing....does it?? I'm sure there are people out there who'll argue the point no doubt,"but hey", this boys 'old school, almost a pensioner, I was there and loved it, these 'youngish' wippersnippers can't imagine what what it was really like in steam days,OK, there's photos and videos out there for these folks ,but I suppose if these locos (I should mention diesel) with their 'chips' (I prefer fish with mine!!) gives some 'pleasure' who am I to spoil this pleasure?? To finish, "yes", I've heard the 'steam sound' fitted locos, I obviously hate it,but I do reckon 'some' of the diesel recordings I could find some 'fun' with, IE, class 25s and 20s, these are the best I've heard, but I can tell you I can do a better class 20 and 40 'Whistler' impersonation than any chip, that comes with working with them for over 4 years! Anyway,it's only a Hobby,if it's 'sound' you want, go for it, play with, and enjoy...Dave

Loco went for £224.00 in the end, totally crazy and I don't think it had sound. It should have been 31-727DS for a sound loco.

I agree Anthony,it's way more than the loco is worth if indeed it does not have sound..Makes me think if I put a sound unit and smoke in my 'NRM City of Truro'..I wonders how much I could get for that???......Dave
