Probaly quite a lot, it's amazing what some people will pay for a used loco.

Teddy came yesterday, now there's a nice Teddy, and was I pleased with it?, a resounding "aye, ah wiz!!"... It's in one of those 'coffin' like boxes from 'Heljan', so it don't move, even if the plane hits turbulance,but....it did have a wiper missing, on searching the box, I found it under the packing in the lid!..but will I ever manage to fit it back on, that's the question, it's like very wee, probably to scale, not a sweeping brush like!!... On further 'spection' the weathering is subtle, just enough but maybe too much on the numbers, time to try it out.. This wee thing is just so cute and cuddly, and does it run?, "yes" so silently and as smooth as anything my friends. I havn't fitted a coupling as yet, it has a huge hole in the buffer beam for the coupling to fix into the "pocket", that's how it's got to be I suppose, and as it's a shunting loco, two couplings will be required. The loco comes with factory fitted pipes and a scale coupling, so I thought, "Hmm"..I got a guards van (latest Hornby") took off one of it's NEM couplings, (it's got a nice wee hook) and I joined the two up, I then proceeded to 'push and pull' it through my tightest point work and the two did fine, (no buffer lock) so I might, just work it that way and make up a 'blanking' plate to fill the holes, maybe, I'll stick in one coupling??......"decisions decisions!!" Anyhoo, I'll give it a good run shortly on a ballast train, meantime back into the house and address the 'weathering', out with my finer than fine 'wet and dry', a big spit on the cabside and ever so slowly 'rubbitty rub' until the numerals became quite visable again, I did the same with the 'grabrails'on the steps turning them back to 'white' (ish) and 'shiny' for the cab/bonnet grabrails, little touches that just add that wee bit extra 'life' to the model.."in my opinion" So, am I pleased with it???...ab-so-ma-loot'ly, all I could fault is the cab stairs, they are very prone to being broken off if 'touched', one of mine came right off, and the other required a wee touch of 'superglue' to secure it before it to fell off, so I'm thinking I'll look into that and make up some 'brass' straps just to add a bit more strength, but careful handling will help the cause? Lastly,(just thought of this) I'm going to paint the coupling rods back to red, I like red,and I believe that they were, even heavily weathered 'rods' would show some red...Dave

It had to come from one of the 'biguns', Backmann have announced that they are the ones to bring out "Staniers Mogul"..I've wanted one of these engines for as long as I can remember and it was just a matter of time, the time is now, and it's pre-ordered from Hattons....I decided on the 'preserved' loco 42968 as the one I'll buy, don't know when it's 'due', even if it's this year,(??) but I don't care........Dave

I'm thinking, this is going to be an expensive year with so many new locos on pre-order.... 1...10001-Backmann...Rails of Sheffield....due soon?? 2...Bayer Garratt-Heljan...Hattons of Liverpool....due soon?? 3...Warship Class D603 'Conquest'-Dapol...Hattons...whenever? 4...Stanier Mogul-42968-Backmann....Hattons...whenever? 5...P2..."Cock 'o' the North-Hornby...Hattons...Christmas? 6...Duke of Gloucester-Hornby...Hattons...July???
It sort of gets away from you,I think that's my 'complete' list for the year ahead, but then there's the wee buying frenzies, like the recently purchased 'Teddy Bear',others are out there still, like the 'Co-Bo'..'.Western Diesel' and one more from Hornby, their Thomson '01' 2-8-0, these are all contenders for 'compulsive' buying..........."Death is in the eye of the 'Trainholder'.......Dave

Talking about Hattons I saw this on their website Bachmann UK 32 550C Class A1 60163 Tornado in BR express blue. Which I like I don't know why but I like the bachmann shape of the tornado over hornby's

The A1s are fine models Andy,as far as a preference and having the Backmann one myself (BR on tender ) I think I'd be more inclined to go with a 'super detailed' Hornby version. (I'm not thinking of adding one to my 'new loco' list ....2 is enough for the now!) As much as I like my two A1s Andy,(Backmann) Backmann seem unable to get the loco to tender footplate transition correct by having the tender footplate about a scale 6-8 inches higher than that of the loco's.(?) You might be thinking "So??" it's nothing, but it just spoils the overall look of an otherwise brilliant loco, and the thing is, it's not a hard fix!. I've done one loco, the other,'Tornado' is still in it's box (or 'ice cube' as the plastic wrap is now called!!) it'll get fixed some day.... I suppose...no hurry. Lastly, wot's on your 'wish list' Andy, anything special to put on the 'noo loco list??'??..........I think mine is just about covered......"Hmmm"....................Dave

My list for 2013 is the bachmann blue tornado as I think if I sell them in the future they will be worth more as a set of apple grean Brunswick green and br blue, must also find a grey one one day. My other train on me list is the P2 main one not railroad series. I'd like j94 but non are DCC yet
