Technically the 'Dapol Deltic' is a 'noo' loco,so I'm just going to say that modifications are being made to get this thing in 'running order' I've just ordered a full set of 'stainless steel' makers plates,it's a set of 10 individual items, these are from "Fox Transfers" (yip, they do 'stuff' in metal!!) I've also made an enquiry into a motorising 'kit', it's called an 6-M-6,a purpose built centre mounted motor driving the 6 wheels in each bogie, the wheel size and gauge pre-set at the factory. It's quite expensive though at 80 UK pounds, so if I bought that and including everything else, I'm up to what the NRM Backmann model ORIGINALLY cost, but at what I'm putting out now, it's a bargain!!.......Dave

That's not bad at all Dave, when you consider the way the market is today.......you buy a kit, and all the aftermarket gear...it adds up. The stuff from Fox Transfers is brilliant......I have some decals and nameplates from them and I have no complaints.
But with this loco, a lovely Deltic, I have no doubt about how good she will look when you're done, she be a Dave build.....better than Bachmann.......Phil

Thanks Phil, but I would still have liked the Backmann!! I'm still farting about ridding the nose end and the sides of the 'pronounced' moulded lines for the yellow stripes and whiskers, I'll just leave a wee 'slevver' as a guide for the 'Fox' transfers. I've used ' Fox' before, but that was way back in my Scotland days, they have been around for a 'while!!', I hope they are as good as you say Phil in this day and age, technically, they should be way better!!!! I've been trying to order a set of 'A1' grills from MG Sharp,(Eng) but I have come to a dead end, seems there is no provision for Credit card details, but they do all (or most) credit cards,it's weird,I just keep getting an 'A4 fault up,whatever that is!!, so I've sent them an Email, hopefully they will get back to me soon! I also sent mail to the makers of the 'motorising unit' that I fancy, it's still available for 79 quid, and it will be 'configured' to suit my Deltic's wheelbase before being sent to me. Meanwhile, I've put in a bid for a 'Lima' class 37,(Ebay Aust) but I wont be getting into a bidding war,if it goes beyond the 42 bucks I've offered, that's it!.........Dave

Helloooo Dave.......Sounds like your progressing well, my Fox transfers went on easily, so yours shouldn't be a problem and the name plates were a breeze, I'm sure you'll like them. That's not bad idea, they configure the mech for you, it's worth it then if it goes straight in and performs. Are the molded lines that big.......I've never seen the kit so I'm finding it a little hard to imagine... for some reason I'm thinking old Airfix..... ? I bought a VI Trains 37 class from Hattons a year or so ago for 34 quid, all wheel drive and pickup, and nicely finished. It pulled 45 American trucks around the flat on my layout, I was impressed.......so it handled the small mix of English wagons I have with ease. From what I understand the mech that VI make, and you can buy them separately will fit straight into the Lima shell.... I'm looking at another Class 66 and an American SD70Ace........and the beat goes on......Phil

The old Lima 37 has the older 'cam motor', it's only a matter of cutting the chassis in half, then re- joining it with a 'fill in' piece , it would be hard to split the block that's fitted to the 'V' trains, that has a centre mounted motor as well! The Backmann 'run of the mill' Deltic is another idea, I'm looking at one on Ebay as well for a 'Buy it Now' price of 139 dollars + postage, but the more I think of the 'motorising unit' from the UK, it just seems to be the better option, for a start no nasty cutting to be done to the chassis, I wont loose the detailed cabs either, the motor is centre mounted, (I don't think it has 'fly wheels' though, I'll go and have another look!!)it's also 12 wheel drive (it has no tyres), all I have to do then is weight it down and I can't see that being a hard job, plenty room inside, I can build 'weight' round the motor and the cardin shafts, and then there's the underside full tank area, it's 'free', the 'tanks' themselves are moulded to the bodysides, so it should weigh a ton!!! On the 'mould lines' ,they are pretty thick Phil, but it's the fact that the real 'Deltic' does not have these, translated to 12" to the foot, the whiskers and sides of our models moulded lines would be about an inch and 'alf thick!! The side lines on the 'real thing' I believe are a band of real thin metal, the whiskers appear to be painted straight onto the nose, I reckon the transfers will look OK applied directly to a 'flat' surface........Dave

The Airfix City of Truro is exactly the same Phil, these mould lines abound on the tender, most models of that 'ilk' had these 'high raised mouldings' if they required 'lining' of any kind...Dave

What I can remember, and I suppose it would still apply, painting these was easy, well, you still needed a steady hand, but on the other hand, applying transfers to these raised lines was a pain and never worked very well as the transfer was usually wider than the raised line,so it was a messy affair with the clear outer edge of the transfer not 'setting down' like it should have,so you painted it!!...or if you had the 'skill'..removed these lines, and I for one, in those early 'learning years' was a bit of a hasher..believe that if you will!!.......Dave

Well, there will be no Lima Class 37, I was the only bidder at 2130 last night and as it was due to end round about 2300, I was not hanging around, once I 'typed' my Email letter to you Phil, I was off to bed!! So, that was hard lines, but as I said,I put my bid in and it was final,I was hoping I didn't win it really as it was a 'recent' version of the 37,it was also a 'Limited Edition' (44/500),so it would have been a waste just to win it for it's motor!! I now have 50 bucks to spend on that UK motorising unit,I'll probably do the ordering shortly, meantime I'm going back into Ebay and maybe I'll buy the Southern Region M7 tank I've been watching... (I'm looking to convert this to a Scottish Loco...maybe).......Dave
