Well isn't that how we learn to become master craftsmen, a little harsh in the beginning, the tag is apprentice.......I look back at some of my early efforts and hide them again......but then there's the kit......Phil

Well Phil,I think you may be right, you require to serve an 'apprenticeship' and I have 'stuff' still lying around as well that brings a certain amount of 'what the ****' "shoorly ah didn'y dae that?" but here, you surely did!!!...still thinking M7, I'll 'lunch break it!!'.....Dave
P/S, I've written a wee 'blog' about the Endeavour build, I think it may offend , it's not meant to, but I just got a bee in my bonnet.....tell me what you think

Do DCC locos run OK on normal DC control? ...Dave

Should do, my DCC engines run on my DC layout without a problem, the chip in them senses the type of layout and acts accordingly.
Fair comment on the Endeavour, that's how you see it. The quality of the kit has been questioned since day one and the comments here may turn some away, but encourage others, but in the end it is the individual who has to decide if he wants to partake.
The guys on this forum are a hardy bunch and have helped each other a lot with their experience, ideas, rebuilt parts, general discussion and thoughts. I'm positive the "silent guests" who read what is written have been helped as well.
But in the end it doesn't matter if you are a forum member or not, to be "influenced or not" the information gleaned from a site like this is still subject to the way each person interprets it and how they use it.
I see your point and I nearly followed you out the door, but I'm past half way, and I've decided to complete it, but I won't do this kind of kit again....Phil

Think most DCC lcoos these days have dual mode decoders, so they will run ok on DC.

No Phil, when I thought about digital I bought the 3 control units, why?,'cause I'm an silly! I purchased a 'chip' and fitted it into a class 25,went through the trials and tribulations, "naw" I removed the chip, 25 no go...Again!??, that's why I had my reservations about purchasing a DCC fitted loco!!, and now I have, rebate arrived, M7 ordered from the Melbourne Raceway, these guys have like 'Rails' bargains, all up 128 bucks, good value for this loco (lined black) which is now 'discontinued' by Backmann....Dave

I had the same issue with a T1 steamer, put a chip in, a better one than it already had, but there was no sound, so I replaced it with the original chip and it hasn't worked since, makes all the sounds but no movement, so to hell I say with DCC.
I'll have to have a look there.....Phil

When't on the net earlier on today, like ..this morning, just trawling around on answers to getting a DCC loco and running it on DC, not trying to disprove you Anthony, I believed you anyway and bought the Hornby M7 anyway, I just wanted to read more on the subject, and it seems the 'latest' chips that Backmann and Hornby use, are fine, and on DC the loco should perform pretty good,,that's what I read, the 'proof' hopefully should arrive soon..Dave

While I was 'trawling' I thought of Rails of Sheffield, and why shouldn't I?, I had been thinking of these 'Prototype locos' that I've got and the fact that I seem to have a few of them and there was one 'inportant' class missing, the 'twins' 10000 & 10001 (other prototypes exist , but I'm not interested in them) I used to have a full brass model one of these a while back (got it from the 'second hand robber', Malkara show, you know who I mean!!), I don't know if were an actual kit or scratch build, the latter I reckon going by the way it was built, beautiful loco, why I sold it?, don't know, just thought it would not be any good for my 'timeframe'..10000 was gone by 1962, but that has not stopped me buying a couple of 'steamers' that were gone by then also!! Anyhoo, it's going to be replaced by '10001' in it's final green livery,(pre-ordered) it lasted till '66', so it'll be hard worked (eventually) on freight duties, mine might even have made it into preservation and be hauling a nice rake of Pullmans, anything infact, might find itself back on the 'Royal Scot'..albeit without her 'sister!!'....Dave
