Too bad the Hornby Pullman coach and the Backmann are different colours... which is correct??In my opinion the Hornby is more correct, on the backmann MK1 the 'cream' seems too 'yellowish', anyway, you'd think both would get it right!(I'm not mentioning the 'umber') So, on a train that consists of the two types 'mixed', and this happened quite regular I believe? In my trainspotting days I was a frequent visitor to Edinburgh Waverly and I often spotted the 'Queen of Scots Pullman', (the only full Pullman train I ever saw, a Deltic or A4 being the regulal motive power!....and going by my 'Ian Allan Combine Volume' circa 1964 (I think) I had 'spotted' both the older type and 'new' MK1 type Pullman coaches indicating to me the train was made up of both types of coaches, and if I were running this particular train in model form, well, the two being different colours would stick out like dog balls!! If you want to be 'correct', a Pullman train consisting of all MK1 stock has to have the 'older' type Pullman brake, so in model form, you have to use a 'Hornby'..... there were no actual 'real' MK1 Pullman brakes built!! These trains would also run with a standard MK1 full brake coach if the 'Pullman' was not available, this 'marroon' (or green) coach would probably look better on a train than two different colours of Pullmans!! Long Pullmans heading for the coast, IE 'The Golden Arrow' might be seen with conbinations of a full MK1 coach brake,or a 'Syphon Van' 'and' a Pullman brake, obviously for passenger's luggage, so a Pullman train could be a bit of a stickler to get right, then of course there are the names and numbers, I'm not going there!!!......Dave

I'm trying to build up a carriage fleet for the GWR and LNER. I also have a few Pullmans in chocolate and cream and of course it's slightly different between Bachmann and Hornby.
Also thinking I might start on a fleet for the LMS and Southern.

Well, I'll be a monkeys uncle Anthony, my coach came today..what service!!..and I had it adressed to my work, so I've got it alreadies!!!........ A carriage fleet Anthony??, good idea my friend! I'd like to build up more myself..for the future!, a full rake of these Backmann Pullmans would be good for a start, I think this is only my second, but I have about 6 of the new Hornby ones, and several of the 'pre-working light era' ones as well (I've got 3 of the old white roofed Tri-ang ones as weel)so I can have a nice oddly coloured 'longish' Pullman train!. The other day I managed to fight my way into my 'train cupboard' in the garage, I've got heaps of coaches, mostly old MK1s from the likes of Hornby, Lima, Mainline, and a brand new lot of the latest MK1s from B'mann (8 of them), there are also some Airfix coaches as well. Most are the maroon versions, but there are some choc and cream in there to, but I definately have NO Southern coaches..I should get one or two!......Dave

Just been on Ebay (Australia pricing)looking at coaches Anthony, now I've seen it, one type of Hornby coach = at 118 dollar each + postage, how would you like a train of 10 of then??...totally outragious my friend! The price of some of these 'fancier' coaches are just getting too much,I reckon the average cost is about just under 1/2 what you pay for your average locomotive. OK, I admit Hornby's coaches are something like bordering on brilliant,we've asked for decent coaches, we have surely got them, but at a price that is now way beyondthe average modeller That Pullman I just bought is almost 70 bucks with postage from the 'Hornby Shop' and the Hornby ones over 80.......AAAAGH. I'm not going to update anymore coaches unless I get them 'cheap' or from the likes of Rails, never ever from Australia!!!..........Dave

Australia is getting ripped off with prices, (btw Microsoft jacked up the prices for win 7 and office just for Australia).
Also places overseas have things you can't get in Aus shops anywhere, think someone could make a killing out here with some decent cheap model rail and ship items.
Actually there are Aussie made carriages, Powerline, (well made in China to be accurate) only it's crap. No interior detail, to light in weight and solidly glued together so no chance of putting any detail in. But they do make Aussie prototypes.

It is said,"between a rock and a hard place', we're the rock and there is no place between!!! So, I'll be on the look out for more 'cheap' Pullmans, but I think I was just lucky, right place, right time! I think I'll be running (if I ever get a layout!!) what I already have!!.....Dave

I bought a set of Amtrak California cars from the US, paid $64 each for them, but I've waited years for them to be produced.
A certain shop in Sydney, upon enquiry, said they didn't know if they would get any in but suggested they would be around the $100 mark if they did, "did I want to order some" was the follow up question in a very disinterested manner.
Unfortunately, they have come and gone, so additions to the fleet will be hard to come by, the cars were sold out before they even had a chance to leave the US I have been told. So with the rip off pricing, the inability to get what you want and the ohhh sooo pleasant "customer service" it is little wonder I shop online......Phil
