I haven't been doing anything on the model lately, just waiting a few issues to see what is coming up with the top layer of planking because I am a bit puzzled with the instructions at the moment, the darker sapelli planks should be below the main wale like shown here in this pic from the mag Attachments:

But here in the instructions in issue 51 we are told to put the lighter planks (that should be above the main wale) in an area of the hull that will be below the main wale Attachments:

Anyway because I haven't got anything on my build to post, here's a bit about me. I have been building models since I was a kid, started with plastic aircraft kits This is part of my study, you can see I have a few hobbies, I used to build and fly model planes, you can see my RC spitfire here, the rest of my planes are in the garage. There is a model of the USS Constitution built from a plastic kit over 30 years ago, its been wrecked a couple of times, once when I shifted and it was temporarily sitting on boxes in the garage and the wind blew it off, I was just about to throw it in the bin but changed my mind and decided to fix it including re-rigging the shrouds. You can also see my HMS Victory model, 1:98 Corel, my first wooden ship, built over 20 years ago. Attachments:

I don't build my models in the house. I have a dedicated workbench in the garage, and a pot belly heater in the garage for when its cold Attachments:

Nice looking models. That is a bit odd with the planking, but I've been finding all the planking a bit odd. Or is that just me. ;D

Hello Steve, always nice to know a bit about the man, I remember taking my built 'Airfix HMS Victorious' kit to school, circa 1959-60 when I was about 10 and doing a 'talk' to the class about her (I think I read straight from the instructions!!) and was hooked on Airfix kits and plastic models in general from then on, but collecting model 'trains' is my number one hobby! All these kits have gone sadly, vanished into thin air as the decades passed, but my model loco fleet builds up and up for my retirement.... as do my ship models that I 'occasionally' aquire off Ebay ..and the likes. I might not be building the Endeavour no more but I can still watch and see how you are all progressing and coping with the model........ and also see what I am missing!! I also had a dedicated building area in my garage, no pot belly heater though, I have one of them portable gass heaters, but the gas is expensive and it does not last very long, so winter work is a hit and miss affair! Sadly, my garage is 'destroyed' in my work area owing to 'unfinished work' (not by me!!) and collapsed shelving, (two persons on this site can verify that!!) it's a long and bitter story, so I won't go there!!...Happy building Steve...Dave

I had a look yesterday in the local shops for a heater to put in the shed, not much here in Coolburn unfortunately. A trip to Bunnings sounds like the go now, a heater in the shed would push the construction of various kits along during these winter months.....Phil

Hi Phil, here is a closer shot of the Victory, dumb phone camera makes everything look yellow in low light, the walls aren't really yellow. Yeah pot belly wood heaters aren't cheap when you have to also buy a flue kit etc, but they are great. Attachments:

Thanks Steve, greats shots, brilliant job....
I'm in love with her, between 1988 and 92 in England, I visited her about a dozen times, crawled everywhere they would let me. Oddly enough, in all these years, I have never built a kit of her, I own the Heller 1/100 kit, but I think I'll pass on that one and build a timber one........Phil

Phil, yeah I'd love to go and see her one day. This one was built from a Corel kit, not the best Victory kit around, there are much better kits out now. I had to do a few mods to make it more like the real one, the stern galleries are terrible and couldn't do much about it unless I wanted to scratch build them, but too much work..... Steve
