It's getting near that time again so I looked at the Arizona sitting there in it's box,and thought,I wonder if I can 'fix' the broken 'spars' on the aft control tower. I had these parts all glued on before I got the new brass detailing set (along with the wood deck),this had brass overlays for both the aft and forward control towers. Unfortunately,(as I said) I had all the relevent parts fixed in place, and these being thin plastic spars, most of them broke. So, as I had to go to Fishwick on Saturday, I popped into 'Fishers D' for a quick look...nothing else!, Nothing new there,I was googling at a 1/8th scale GTHO Ford Falcon and thinking 'WOW' the size of the thing, strewth, that's the scale of the Aston Martin, probably 1/2 the price mind you of the 'build it' (and probably just as good!!) mind you at 1100 bucks or there about, If I had the 600 deposit,I would have ordered one!! Anyhoo, all I bought was some lengths of steel wire,I needed some the other day for some reason, and as it was 'cheap' (correct, you heard right!!) I bought two lots of different sizes, thinking these have to come in handy some day ,I was thinking first (railway) of point and signal control wire for 'semafives',(same as semaphore with one arm extra!!) Well, that's what prompted me to 'fix' this wee hic up with the Arizona, all the spars have been 'repaired' or replaced and are fitted to the Aft control tower, so it's ready to be sprayed 'matt white',(not as per the 'official' colour chart, it's sea grey, white for me,cause it looks white!!!!) So is this a start on the 'Arizona', maybe, watch this space!!...Dave

I've been 'looking' at the Arizona,in a serious way folks, this weather gives you 'inspiration',if nothing else!! So, I'm thinking before I get back into the 'brass' detailing,(heaps and heaps to go!) I'll get the 'angle' pieces fitted to the edge of the deck..**you knows what I'm talkin' 'bout Phil!** I started attaching one strip to the decks edge to see how it went, unfortunately I had a wee problem straight up. I had added a small piece of 'Plasticard' to each 'bollard' along the decks edge, this increased the height of each of these to allow the 'angle' strips to 'slip under' and help secure each angle in place for gluing. Unfortunately, I did not account for the distance that each one is from the edge, they should be the same, and what I'm talking about is 'tiny', but it is enough as not to allow the 'angle strip' to fit 'flush' with the side of the hull. So, as I move along the deck fitting each strip, the 'bollard' will probably have to be removed, but these are quite solidly glued to the deck, I've already halved one in two,and the carpet monster did it's best to 'eat' it up, tiny it may have been..I found it!! I did find an 'air hose' connection for one of my locos though when I was down there' raking in the shag pile', I didn't even know that I'd lost one!! Now I need to have a wee look and see from wence it came, but I'm thinking it's the 'modern day' connection for the 'City of Truro's' Tender....Dave

'Plan 2' peoples will be to finish off the two 'Control Towers',there's heaps to be done on them, 'undetailed' trusses moulded to the undersides of these and related platforms have to be cut off and replaced with the highly detailed brass replacements from the 'MK1' decking kit' This job will be made more difficult as ''brass' handrails from the 'kit' were previously fitted before this 'detail pack' was available, this will make handling quite difficult and I do not want to be 're-fitting' these railings as they are very complex in their shape, plus the chance of me cutting me finger off is increased!! Anyhoo, I should also be able to take photos as well, that should help explain some of my 'stuff' (who's seen my choo choo photo???)..Dave

I've taken photos but I hav'nt put them on my computer yet..I have a question,If the card in the phone has sqillions of photos on it ,but I only want the last 6 or so,how do I do i??t,I'm under the impression that everytime I plug the camera in,it uploads all the photos. I do not want to 'delete all' as the wife might want some of the photos of the card printed out,and of course, I can't do that!..what's the solution?would it be better just to simply get a new card??
Anyhoo, the Arizona received a bit more attention at the week end,so much so infact it got right up her indoors,to say she despises my hobby would be an understatement So, I made a start on the 'deck angle' which should infact be part of the hull sides. On this model the top edge of the hull is finished of with a sort of beading from stem to stern, this is correct as per the real thing, but where the model gets it wrong, the deck should be about a foot (or more?) BELOW that level!,if you look at any photo of the ship, this bit of detail is right 'in your face', the Bismarck is exactly the same,it's a missing detail in just about every model kit on the market!! So my solution is to fit 'Evergreen' (plastic') lengths of 'Angle' strips right on the edge of the 'hull/deck' This is fine,if the deck only has 1 pointy bit and a curved bit at the back, too easy, Arizona's shape is a bit more complex,so a lot more 'nicks' (tri-angle shaped)have to be cut out of the angles 'bottom' to allow the thing to bend (it just twists if you don't 'nick' it!) I succeeded in this quest down the 'port' side first, all 3 plus foot of it!,so it's a bit of a job to say the least......... OK,now the starboard side,by the time I got to the 'amidships' section I was thinking that the 'beading' along the 'old top' of the hull/deck is looking completely out of place as it now runs 'below' these new sections and does not look right at all at all, itdefinately hase to be removed, but then I'll need to add 'beading' to the new 'evergreen' sections, this I'm thinking could be easily done using 'stretched sprue'......End of part one...brekky time!! I would copy all the photos off the card and into a directory just for photos from the camera, then sort them into different directories after copying them all.
So photos of the Arizona would go into one directory and swmbo photos into another one and so on.
