Hey Skyfire, I have been looking closely at the 4 pounders that came with the kit and they are a bit long. They scale out to 30mm long. After inspecting them closely I reckon on getting them close to scale with these cuts in the cannon. If you use a hacksaw it takes most of the material out just making the cut with only a small amount of filing. Attachments:

This is after the cuts and filing is done. It almost fits the scale drawing below. Attachments:

I have been busy setting up the led's inside the Endeavour. I'm trying to keep them out of- line of sight-, to get an ambient lighting effect. Quite happy with the result. I have the problem of finishing the great cabin deck & cabins- with lights-, before I can glue on the quarter deck. The saving grace , is I'm unemployed and have the time, ..... at least i think its a saving grace

Well you have the extra time, but not always the extra cash.

Merry Christmas Anthony, Hope it is a good holiday break for you. I have completed the "nails" on the quarter deck.Think I need to glue down the waist deck, so I can add the waist bulwarks properly. The lighting for the lower waist deck is done, I'm just worried about being able to clear out sanding dust in the lower deck once the top deck is glued down. It looks like I'll have to blow it out and hope for the best. TONY

Look at this 6 pounder in 1/48 scale..... no , they dont have the 4 pounder. I believe it is longer than what we need , otherwise it's bloody perfect. So much for ours being museum quality. I read that one bloke was going to use them on his partwork endeavour. Tempting but I believe they would cost an arm and a leg.I suppose the bright side is that if we find something better at any stage , its easy to swap over. Attachments:

Hi, new on here, just started my own build diary. The gun barrel length is a bit of a puzzle. See my post on scale, the model is actually 1:51 not 1:48 In AOTS the drawing indicate that the barrels would be just over 5 foot long, but in Ray Parkin's book HM Bark Endeavour he says the barrels were 6 foot long If six foot long that is 1830mm which means at 1:51 they should be 36mm long. Exactly the length of the barrels supplied. I am making my own carriages because the ones supplied are plain wrong. See my diary for photos.

Just Googled the subject of cannons. Found a website that lists the standard length of 18th century naval cannons. 4 pounders were 6'0" So the 36mm is correct.

...the 4-pounders were 5ft 6inch or 6ft long, and weighed 11 or 12cwt respectively. Lavery, from- Arming and fitting of english ships of war 1600-1895 I have tried to get a measurement of the still extant 4 pounder of cooks in the museum which would settle the question to no avail. Thanks Shipaholic, I am following your build as it has re-invigorated me to get on with mine
